Whatever you are looking for from your stay, you will find it in the local area. Whether it be culture, adventure, exercise, cuisine, or just relaxing, we have it all within a few kilometres. Here are just a few of the things which you might want to try while you are here;
Bicycling
There are a few options locally. Bicycles and quadricycles are available to hire in A Pontenova from the ´Tirolinas das Minas´. Eco Activo rent bicycles from their base in San Tirso and can recommend routes.
Bird Watching and Nature
Galicia is a bird watchers paradise with storks, buzzards, vultures, owls and a whole lot more. If you go out for a walk in the rural areas there is a chance that you may see deer, wild boar, pine martens, badgers, squirrels, foxes and the odd hedgehog. There are wolves within a short drive, but they are notoriously difficult to see, and over in Asturias there are rare brown bears.
Eating & Drinking
We have a few local restaurants in A Pontenova which offer great local fare at fantastic prices. Our local favourites are Lar de Balbina, Hotel San Briz and for snacks and drinks the Casa do Cultura, all within five kilometres of Casa Liñeiras. Straying a little further afield you will be spoilt for gastronomic choices with great restaurants in Meira (20 minutes), Taramundi (15 minutes), Vegadeo (20 minutes) and Ribadeo (30 minutes).
Fishing
The Rio Eo is famous for trout and salmon and A Pontenova has a trout festival every year to celebrate this tasty little fish. A license needs to be obtained from a branch of A Banca which will last for a full year. Galicia is crossed with streams and rivers and its an ideal spot for the keen angler.
Kayaking and Canoeing
Eco Activo offer calm water, and moving water, canoe and kayak experiences for up to three hours. They are based in San Tirso and operate from the 1st June to 30th October each year. Ciento Volando operate out of San Tirso de Abres and Ribadeo and offer kayaking on the Rio Eo or around the coast.
Off Roading
Just a few kilometres away in Riotorto you will find Lugo Aventura who offer very reasonably priced off road excursions into the countryside. A two person excursion for an hour costs as little as €60 and is fantastic fun.
Swimming
We’re just thirty to forty minutes drive from some of the most spectacular beaches in the country including the famous Cathedrals Beach which is often ranked in the top ten beaches anywhere in the world. There are plenty to choose from including everything from private coves to wide open bays. You are sure to find something to your liking and a great place to take a dip.
The municipal pool in A Pontenova is located in a sensational setting and is very popular in the height of summer (limited opening). Entry is very cheap and gets you in for the day where you can take advantage of the pool, the grassed sun-bathing surround and the bar which serves snacks.
Alternatively there is the possibility to river bathe locally in the Rio Eo in A Pontenova or in many other locations around Galicia.
Walking
Galicia is a walkers paradise and even if you are not up to taking on the entire Camino de Santiago we can point you in the direction of a number of local walks to meet all tastes and abilities. If you are looking for secluded waterfalls, ancient forests, or spectacular views then we have it all within a short drive. There are also plenty of interesting walks on our doorstep if you feel the need to walk off a big meal or just have a nice amble in the sunshine.
Zip Wire and Mine Tour
A Pontenova has recently built a 300m zip wire, the longest in Galicia, and this is available throughout the summer and at weekends out of season through ´Tirolina das Minas´. Associated with the zip wire are a number of Mine Tours of the old workings, you can end one of these tours with a trip down the zip wire.
